My Step grandson has started saving for a Strandberger 8 string.

No amount of talk will dissuade him. He reckons he will have enough after Christmas 2021. Must be great to be young. My goal is to still be alive come Christmas 2021.

Ah, the youth love a bit on novilty. Us old farts have seen it all and done most of it, what goes around comes around blah blah blah.
But if it inspires him to make music, that's a good thing.

Why would he want a guitar shape that was invented around the time his grandfather was born? As ES says, I hope it inspires him.

He is into heavy/thrash/death metal, hence the guitar style. He already has a 7 string, along with several 6 strings. The thing is, he is an amazing player. He can transcribe complicated pieces by ear and gave up on tab a long time ago. Taking lessons to read Staff. I am trying to get him to try Jazz.

I hope you're here in 2021 too and much beyond. He'll be bereft if you aren't, I'm sure about that. You sound like a guitarist step grandson's favourite grandad - no strings attached to that ! Long may it continue.
