  • I was quite impressed by the Afterglow - I know it's basically a beringer in metal box, but I get the impression TC have worked some tweaks into it.
  • I think I just get to distracted by those little boxes of wonderment, I end up using practice time playing with them too much. Although I still think the right combination of chorus, flanger and analogue delay can sound amazing!
  • Do what works. Books and tutors will sometimes tell you not go thumb over the top - but if it works, do it. I tend to do it on some necks, but not others (notably my tele with vintage radius and less so on my strats with a 9 inch radius.)
  • Well the cheapie Epi arrived, it was a little dusty, the stings were a birds nest at the headstock end, they felt and sound very tired; giving the guitar a boxy sound lacking in volume. Changed out the strings, gave the board an oil and the whole t…
  • Megi - one guitar that really impressed me (as an electric player) was the Faith Venus - not too big, nice materials and build. It's a little higher than you £400 budget (but not much). If I had more budget than my current acoustic experiment allo…
  • Well I found an used Epiphone AJ220s on ebay for £80. It's sunburst and has a solid top. Although it's a jumbo it has the slope shoulder design, so looks very manageable. It's due to arrive next week, so will report in back
  • Mark - I think are right on the money with a piece like sylvia - the phrases are so melodic they need to be played note for note, beat for beat to sound right. A lot of impressive fretboard theatrics can be bluffed or misplayed and no one (save for…
  • Stage 7 - Playing all the right notes, not necessarily in the right order.
  • Lots of really interest points - I think the conscious competence stage is probably the most frustrating one - when you mess up, you know it! There is of course that magical moment where you practice something, can't get it right, so pack up. Come…
  • I always enjoyed Randal's Lord of the Rings rant in Clerks II, where he basically sums up the movie as three films about people walking somewhere. "In that movie even the trees walked"
  • That does look really cool - I like the way it works like a burst, I've seen too many scorch jobs that look like a lunatic has been let loose with a blow torch. My faith in the power of fire has been restored!
  • Wow that sounds fascinating! Pulp sci if? Not a genre I'm familiar with but I'd probably buy it just to see what it's like! You've got some great ideas. I use the term pulp sci-fi because it's straight escapism - think sci-fi where the science i…
  • Hey Ninja, lots of selling and buying going on here. Why on earth do you want to get down to single figures ? What kind of stuff do you write? Anything music related? I know, there are folks out there who manage with a single guitar...I'm not one…
  • I'm still around - although I have to say I have no idea where time has been evaporating to in recent months. I changed cars last year and it's just gone for it's first service, yet it only feels like I've been driving it a couple of months, let al…
  • I've seen several episodes of pawn stars when guitars are featured and the general concensus of "the internet" is most of them are staged - If my memeory serves me correctly the Hendrix guitar was for sale on the web site of the expert who appraised…
  • I kind of like these a lot - I've never been familiar with shergold, so they are a little new to me. Love the body shape and particularly the blue-grey one. I'm not so struck on the headstock design, but I think this would grow on me. To me they …
  • Ta all I have been enjoying the youtube videos Richard - they are always on my playlist.
  • Thanks guys! Always can find time for guitar Megi- I have room of my house kind of dedicated to it now (I decorated it in exactly the same shade of Orange as my amps!). Just going slightly off topic, but it's great to have space where I can just l…
  • I'm here......just not got much worthwhile to say... Guitar has taken a backseat for a few weeks while I pushed hard to finish 100,000 word novel that I've been working on for a year and a bit.....time to play some chords before the editing phase c…
  • What grinds my gears is when people use the word Pacific instead of Specific.
  • Lester - that is a couch made for guitars!  I have a dream to build a music room/man cave one day - it's a while off, but it's fun to mentally configure it.
  • Really like the finish on the baycaster Reg - I remember many year ago when guitarist was worth reading they had review of Nik Kershaw's custom tele (I can't remember the builder), that had an amazing birdseye top in  a very similar shade and I reme…
  • Amps contain lethal voltages - they can take a very long time to bleed away, fortunately most modern amps are good at separating the voltages from the bits you stick your fingers in, but heed the warning! It sounds like power tubes - if the amp is se…
  • I met Chapper's just before Xmas at the Dorje gig in Tunbridge Wells.  He's exactly the same in real life as he is on You Tube
  • Thank you guys - I count the number of guitars I've had that are instant keepers on one hand, the ML-2 is one of them.Tonally the SH1's are very traditional PAF voiced hum buckers - although I would say they are both pleasantly hot and fat - the bre…
  • The gigbags from Thomann are excellent value and very well made - I use them for Basses and a couple of guitars - I opted for the mid range ones (around £16) rather than the premium ones and they have pockets and padding in abundance. Their hardcase…
  • I've got to buy some paint and a couple of brushes on the way home, not sure of there are any offers on, but I'm going "tooled up" just in case.
  • IIRC the CR series have a voicing that's modelled on the Rockoverb; which can only be a good thing. I converted to Orange amps this year after years of messing with other amps and frankly it was the best move I've ever made.  Aside from tone the bui…
  • I've always preferred simple EQ sections, I think this why a gravitated away from Marshalls and toward Orange. My TH30 has a remarkably flexible shape control on the dirty channel that runs from all mids to scooped.  I generally find that the tone I…
  •  Tone print is pretty cool.  The software alters how the internal parameters of the pedal work - so they are more than a preset; they are more akin to complete pedal voices. While you can download them via a PC there is a better way of doing it - yo…
